Four out of five companies admit that their legacy systems are significantly or noticeably hampering their commercial success. This is according to the latest ‘Application Modernisation’ report from IT service provider adesso. Nevertheless, 86 per cent believe these same core applications are well positioned for the next five years. This discrepancy can hardly be explained by the actual state of the systems. A more likely explanation is that modernisation has long been regarded as too labour-intensive, too expensive and too risky. For the IT service provider, this is precisely the sticking point revealed by the survey of 300 decision-makers in German companies. A system that is up and running is considered fit for the future. However, whether it will also support the next business model is rarely questioned.

Energy group RWE AG and IT service provider adesso SE are expanding their long-standing collaboration. With a new framework agreement, the partners are pooling their activities in the areas of digitalisation, IT services and artificial intelligence (AI). They aim to work even more closely together in future to implement key initiatives for operational excellence, innovation and sustainable growth. The agreement will run for three years and includes the targeted deployment of AI wherever measurable business value has been identified – spanning IT operations and direct business optimisation – as well as data-driven platforms and new international delivery structures.

adesso SE has secured one of the most significant contracts in its corporate history. Following a multi-stage tender process lasting more than two years, the Deutsche Bundesbank has selected the IT service provider as its partner. Over the coming years, adesso will support the central bank in modernising its core banking system. The contract, with a total value in the tens of millions, is among the largest that adesso has secured to date, particularly due to its significant proportion of work contracts.
